Have questions about vending, in-store displays, pop-ups, or working with Senpai & Co.? Start here!
This FAQ covers the most common questions we receive from local artists and small creators.
Application & Review Process
How do I apply to work with Senpai & Co.?
Apply through our Artist Alley application form! Pop-ups, in-store displays, themed weekends, and future collaborations are all processed via the same application.
Applications are open for a limited time on a seasonal schedule, and artists can subscribe to the Artist Application Mailing List to get early access to the application.
How long does the review process take?
Review times vary depending on upcoming events and current applications. Most artists hear back within a few days to a few weeks.
What do you look for when reviewing artists?
We look for artists whose work fits our community, store atmosphere, and future event plans. Presentation, product variety, and overall vibe all play a role.
We prioritize applications that feature manga and anime-forward work, but don't auto-reject applications with other fandom arts.
All applications are reviewed carefully with our own eyes.
If I'm not selected right away, can I apply again?
Absolutely! Some artists may simply be a better fit for future events, themes, or available spaces. We always encourage reapplying.
Products & Merch
What types of merch are allowed?
We welcome a wide variety of artist merch in-store, including stickers, charms, keychains, pins, and other small pieces.
Items such as apparel, accessories, original art, and prints are restricted to pop-up availability only.
Are fanworks allowed?
Yes! Senpai & Co. welcomes fandom-inspired artwork and merch. However, we prohibit bootlegged and/or mass-produced counterfeit items.
Are original works allowed?
Senpai & Co. loves supporting original creators, indie manga projects, comics, and zines.
Due to space limitations and store demographics, original art prints and standalone art displays are currently limited to Pop-Up events. However, original manga, comics, zines, mini-zines, and fanbooks may be considered for in-store display and shelving.
Are NSFW or mature items allowed?
NSFW or mature content is limited to Pop-Up events only and must be appropriately censored within displays. Because Senpai & Co. is an all-ages bookstore, mature content may not be visible from storefront windows or openly displayed in shared customer spaces.
Artists are responsible for verifying the age of customers viewing or purchasing mature content when applicable. Senpai & Co. may decline artists whose work is primarily NSFW, or reserve mature-content creators for select curated events only.
Do you have an AI-art policy?
Yes. Senpai & Co. does not permit AI-generated artwork or AI-generated merchandise within our Artist Alley program or in-store artist displays.
If we suspect a piece may be AI-generated, we may ask the artist to provide proof of authorship or artistic process. If sufficient proof cannot be provided, the pieces in question may be removed from consideration.
Repeated concerns regarding AI-generated work, especially across a large portion of an artist’s portfolio, may result in rejection or removal from future events and collaborations.
In-Store Displays
What is an in-store artist display?
In-store artist displays are curated shelf or display spaces within Senpai & Co. featuring artist-made merch, manga, comics, zines, and small fandom goods available during normal store hours.
Do you carry artist prints in-store?
At this time, Senpai & Co. does not typically carry standalone art prints as part of permanent in-store displays due to space limitations and store demographics. However, artists participating in Pop-Up events are welcome to bring full convention-style setups, including prints.
What kinds of items work best for in-store displays?
Smaller items such as stickers, charms, keychains, pins, mini-zines, fanbooks, indie manga, and compact fandom merch tend to work best within our in-store display spaces.
How long do in-store displays stay up?
Display lengths vary depending on the artist, product type, season, and store scheduling. Some displays may be short-term features, while others may remain longer as part of rotating artist sections.
Pop-Up Events
What is an Artist Alley pop-up?
Artist Alley pop-ups are curated vending events hosted inside Senpai & Co., featuring local artists, fandom creators, indie merch, manga, prints, and small businesses within our manga bookstore.
Do artists choose their own hours?
Yes! Artists are free to choose their own hours within scheduled pop-up weekends. Once dates are confirmed, artists may set the hours they plan to be present and vending.
Are pop-ups single-artist or group events?
Both! Senpai & Co. hosts both single-artist spotlights and multi-artist pop-up weekends depending on the event, space, and theme.
Can I participate in themed events?
Absolutely. Senpai & Co. regularly plans themed pop-ups and curated events based around genres, fandoms, aesthetics, holidays, and seasonal ideas.
Tables & Setup
Are tables/chairs provided for pop-ups?
Yes! Senpai & Co. typically provides one 4'x2' table and one stool per brand during multi-artist Pop-Up weekends. For single-artist spotlight events, we may be able to provide an additional stool upon request for an assistant, partner, or guest.
Artists are also welcome to bring their own furniture or setup pieces if preferred.
How much space do artists get?
Artists generally receive one standard table space during multi-artist Pop-Up weekends. Single-artist spotlight events may allow artists to use two tables arranged in an L-shape, creating one 6' side and one 4' side for expanded setups.
Because Senpai & Co. remains fully open during events, we kindly ask that tables not be rearranged into a full 8' straight display.
Can artists bring their own displays?
Absolutely. Artists are encouraged to personalize their setups with displays, signage, shelves, risers, tablecloths, and decorations. We simply ask that larger setup pieces be discussed with us beforehand so we can plan the space appropriately.
Artists may also choose to bring their own table setup in place of the standard provided table, but may not combine personal tables with Senpai & Co. tables for additional space. If a personal table differs significantly in size, we ask that artists let us know beforehand so we can plan the event layout accordingly as well.
Fees & Payment
Does Senpai & Co. work with wholesale or consignment?
Senpai & Co. works with both wholesale and consignment arrangements depending on the artist, product type, and event structure. Terms are discussed collaboratively during the review process.
Are there table fees, shelf fees, or application fees?
Senpai & Co. does not currently charge application fees, table fees, or standard shelf fees. We aim to keep opportunities accessible for independent artists whenever possible.
How are artists paid?
Payment structures vary depending on whether an artist is participating through wholesale, consignment, or live pop-up vending. Details are discussed individually during onboarding and event planning.
How are sales managed during pop-ups?
Artists are generally responsible for handling their own sales, payment processing, inventory, and customer transactions during Pop-Up events. This allows artists to maintain full control over their setup, pricing, and payment methods.
Policies & Expectations
What should artists expect during events?
Senpai & Co. events are designed to be welcoming, community-focused, and collaborative. Artists should expect an active bookstore environment, customer interaction, and a curated atmosphere centered around fandoms, creativity, and small businesses.
Will Senpai & Co. share photos/videos of my setup?
Senpai & Co. may photograph or film event spaces, artist setups, and general event activity for social media and promotional purposes. Artists who prefer not to have their setup featured should communicate this beforehand.
What happens if I need to cancel?
We understand that emergencies and scheduling conflicts happen. We simply ask that artists notify us as soon as possible so we can adjust event planning and potentially offer the space to another artist.
What behavior or products may be declined?
Senpai & Co. reserves the right to decline products, displays, or behavior that conflict with our store environment, policies, or community standards. This may include counterfeit goods, undisclosed AI-generated art, openly displayed explicit content, discriminatory behavior, or disruptions to the store environment.
