Kimihiro Watanuki is a high school student plagued by spirits that only he can see—and they seem particularly attracted to him. His search for relief leads him to the mysterious shop of Yūko Ichihara, a powerful witch who can grant almost any wish, provided the customer pays an equivalent price. In exchange for freeing him from the spirits, Yūko makes Watanuki work at her shop, where he becomes involved in the strange wishes, supernatural troubles, and hidden consequences of her many customers.
