April: Life in the Shop, New Reads, and What's Next

Hi, Friends!


April has arrived, and the shop is in full motion. New releases are rolling in, regulars are building out their collections, and we’re starting to see what Senpai & Co. really looks like as it grows.


March at the Shop

March gave us a busy start to the spring season, and we couldn't be more excited to see April.

In March, we had two major events, our Friday the 13th sale and the Matcha Meets Manga pop-up event with Dayone Matcha Bar, and a test-run of an upcoming event series...


Friday the 13th: 13% Off all Horror and Thriller Titles

For Friday the 13th, our foot traffic was roughly doubled. Online, we showed you all our curated horror selection, and Junji Ito really caught the eye of the masses.

Our top 3 titles from the event are as follows:

  1. Junji Ito works--especially Gyo and Deserter

  2. Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku (Yuji Kaku)

  3. Death Note (Tsugumi Ohba)


Matcha Meets Manga: Pop-Up Event with dayone matcha bar!

Oh, my. What a turnout! Matcha has officially met Manga, and we saw so much of our manga-loving community here in Hazel Dell. Nearly a hundred people came in, got a delicious drink, and perused our shelves.

For the pop-up event, dayone had an exclusive yakult matcha latte--and it was delicious. As was the strawberry cheesecake matcha latte.... and the classic matcha latte... and the--well, you get the idea. We are completely unbiased here at Senpai & Co. ... ;)

Here's a quick message from Annie, the owner of dayone:

"I'd like to say thank you to everyone who supported both of us, and I'm very happy that we have such a nice community. We wouldn't want to have our grand opening any other way!"


Escape the Isekai

Every month, we're hosting an Escape Room-style scavenger hunt game here at Senpai & Co.: Escape the Isekai.

Each month, a new theme will be announced--How did you get summoned to this new world? What is at stake?--and you'll have 30 minutes to decode the clues.

Now, why did we get summoned in March?

This is what you discovered when you came to in another world:

A rare manga volume has been stolen by the Demon Lord’s minions. Heroes from another world--that’s you--have been summoned to this realm to recover the missing volume and foil the Demon Lord’s plans.

How do you participate? Just walk into the shop on the last Monday of the month, and tell Senpai "I'm here to Escape the Isekai", and we'll present you your first clue.

Good luck... and watch out for truck-kun.


Artist Alley is coming to Senpai & Co.!

One of our biggest goals for Senpai & Co. has always been to make the shop feel like a year-round artist alley—and we’re finally starting to bring that to life.

We’ve officially opened applications for local artists to showcase and sell their work in-store. Depending on the artist and setup, this can look like dedicated shelf/display space in the shop, or full pop-up style setups during select Artist Alley weekends.

If you create anime or manga-inspired prints, stickers, or other small merch, this is your chance to have your work featured right here in the shop.

We’re prioritizing PNW artists, but we’re always excited to discover creators from anywhere <3

The response so far has been incredible, and we’re so excited to start building a rotating lineup of artists and turning this into a regular part of the Senpai & Co. experience.

April's Double-Punch Deal

This month, we want to spotlight our Light Novels and Novels!

Our community has been enthusiastic about the light novels section we've been building, submitting lots of title requests and inspiring us to keep growing.

In fact, some of your favorite manga and anime series might already be available as light novels, patiently waiting on the shelf for you. Here are some of our favorites:

  • The Apothecary Diaries by Natsu Hyuuga

  • Solo Leveling by Chugong

  • Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, So I'll Max Out My Defense by Yuumikan

  • Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear by Kumanano

Of course, these are suggestions. We humbly invite you to come in and browse our selection of light novels and find your next favorite read.

Title Requesting

New releases are always exciting, but if there’s a specific volume you’re waiting on, don’t forget:

Our Title Request Form is always open. Ask us to find Volume X of Series Y---no service fee, just the cost of the book if we track it down.

It’s an easy way to finish a series, stay local, and avoid the online scavenger hunt.
